Baseband Layer 2 Software Architect

Our Client is a global leader in next-generation telecom technology is seeking a Baseband Layer 2 Software Architect to join its R&D center. The company is investing in cutting-edge software and SoC technologies to push the boundaries of wireless communications across 5G and future 6G systems.

Role Overview
In this role, you’ll lead the architectural design and innovation for Layer 2 (L2) software in next-generation wireless products. This includes designing scalable, high-performance architectures for control and user planes, driving breakthroughs in root technologies, and ensuring smooth integration between hardware, software, and algorithm teams. You’ll also track industry trends and contribute to long-term research strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design Next-Gen Layer 2 Architectures: Develop and define high-performance software architecture for Layer 2 wireless baseband systems (MAC Scheduler, User Plane Control, Data Plane Processing).
  • Drive Technical Innovation: Lead technology breakthroughs through software design, SW/HW co-design, and architecture optimizations to enhance product capacity and performance.
  • Lead Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with global teams across algorithm, software, and hardware domains to ensure a cohesive and integrable system architecture.
  • Stay Ahead of Trends: Research evolving technologies through academic papers, conferences, and institutional partnerships to shape future design strategy.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: PhD or MSc in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Wireless Communications, or related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years in the wireless communications industry, ideally with hands-on involvement in 4G/5G Layer 2 systems or related domains.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficient in C/C++, embedded systems development.
    • Deep knowledge of L2 algorithms and software such as:
      • Scheduling techniques
      • Link adaptation
      • MIMO (SU-MIMO, MU-MIMO)
      • Data plane processing
    • Familiarity with hardware systems including ASICs (e.g. DSP), ARM/Intel architectures.
    • Experience with SW/HW co-design, including:
      • Microprocessor architecture
      • Memory/cache/task scheduling optimization
      • Compiler and power consumption optimization
    • Exposure to AI/ML applications in wireless systems is a plus.
